Penn State is a research institution -- everyone hears the claim sooner or later. But what the University researches is a mystery to most.

Hours spent in laboratories in front of computers and test tubes can have more than academic rewards.

Audience members volunteer to be Greg or Marcia or Mr. Brady. The lead singer selects a lucky few to form The Brady Bunch so the whole bar can join in and sing the infamous TV show's theme song.

Three people have been cited for disorderly conduct resulting from a fight that occurred outside of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity on Jan. 23.

Although universities nationwide are experiencing a general education revival, Penn State is way ahead of the game.

For better or for worse, the Undergraduate Student Government Senate liaisons are the primary communication link to other campus organizations, but with restructuring they may no longer be needed.

The University's majestic American elms are falling victim to a host of problems that are weakening the trees structurally and deteriorating their health.

Although Gov. Robert P. Casey has proposed an increase in state funding to the University of about 3.4 percent next year, the amount falls more than $10 million short of the University's request.

Two years ago, few people had heard the terms 'bonking,' 'riding fakey' and doing a 'stale roast beef.'

The roof of Northland Bowling lanes, 1521 Martin St., collapsed early yesterday morning due to the weight of the snow on the roof, causing extensive damage, police said.

A 22-year-old Spring Mills man was ordered by District Justice Ronald Horner yesterday to stand trial on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and false imprisonment.

SPORTS

Now that the regular swimming season is over, freestyler Jason Eby is gearing up for the year's big showdown -- the Big Ten Championships -- and he's ready to take it all off.

Picture it! Eleven athletes, two coaches, a coaching assistant, a trainer and a vaulting board -- all in one van.

Many students look forward to spring break as a time to hit the beaches, soak in the sun and party with thousands of others from around the country.

Slowly he stalks his prey. Like a cat ready to pounce, he looks for an opening. In a blink of an eye -- just one ill-fated step -- the attack comes and before the doomed can react, he's become another in a long line of victims.

The men's basketball team, decimated by injuries and illness, played one of its worst games of the season in a lackluster 77-64 loss at No. 21 Wisconsin last night.

For many, the concept of art using photocopy machines probably gets no more creative than making copies of a bare butt or middle finger and tacking such masterpieces to a friend's door.
